Jack Catterall versus Josh Taylor Two undercards All bouts prior to the 2024 boxing match’s main event
When Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall rematch on May 25, their years-long verbal feud will finally come to a close. You can watch the fight in Leeds on DAZN and ESPN+.
Taylor (19-1) is a skilled combatant who formerly held the title of uncontested super lightweight gold champion. In 2022, “The Tartan Tornado” prevailed against Catterall in a contentious split decision to win all the belts at 140. Since then, Taylor has only engaged in one fight, when he was defeated by Teofimo Lopez in his professional debut.
Taylor hasn’t been able to fight consistently because of injuries. The 33-year-old, though, thinks he is at his peak right now and will defeat Catterall 2-0 this time around with no negative publicity.
“I believe it’s quite obvious [that I can perform better],” Taylor stated via Bad Left Hook during a DAZN broadcast. “It’s quite clear from my prior performances, awards, and titles. I’ve improved on a hundred things. The other guys entering the division these days are skilled fighters, and they handle him with ease thanks to his style and boxing technique, which I believe is just enough to try and win.

“I don’t believe he’ll win a world championship. He’ll be British boxing’s near-man.
At one point, Catterall (28-1) was the British super lightweight champion. After the initial bout, “El Gato” repeatedly called out Taylor, but he was never granted the rematch he wanted, and the Scot’s ailments further prolonged the wait. Following that battle, he has gone 2-0 and is now prepared to take on Taylor.
“I’m relieved that the fight is now signed. We’ve cornered him for the past two years, and now that the time and location are determined, we can resolve the issue,” Catterall stated.
British gold is up for grabs on the undercard in Leeds, where local fighters are hoping to make an impression.
Boxing schedule for 2024: scheduled bouts include Deontay Wilder vs. Zhilei Zhang and Josh Taylor vs. Jack Catterall.
Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury to become the undisputed heavyweight champion on May 18, in Saudi Arabia, putting the biggest fight of 2024 in the rearview mirror. The bout was just one more in a long series of historic bouts that boxing has produced in recent years.
Usyk and Fury have a rematch provision in their contract that both fighters have stated they intend to be upheld, therefore it’s likely that they will fight again before the end of 2024. Fury finally has the upper hand because the loser of the bout was the one with the authority to trigger the rematch clause.
Now, everyone’s eyes will be on Leeds, England, for the much awaited rematch between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall. When the two first faced one other in 2022, Taylor was the unchallenged junior welterweight champion. Despite Catterall’s obvious dominance and rightful victory, the bout was awarded to Taylor by two of the three ringside judges. Notwithstanding the dispute, Taylor insisted he was rightfully the winner. He eventually lost or gave up three of his four world titles instead of consenting to required defenses, and in 2023, he lost badly to Teofimo Lopez for the WBO belt.
Now that he has his chance to finally take Taylor on, Catterall can finally exact revenge—even though there isn’t a championship at stake.
A rematch to determine the undisputed light heavyweight title was scheduled for the summer in Saudi Arabia. With all four championships on the line, unified champion Artur Beterbiev was scheduled to face WBA champion Dmitry Bivol on June 1. However, Beterbiev’s injury postponed the bout. Now at the top of the bill are heavyweights Zhilei Zhang and Deontay Wilder.
Different crowds will be drawn to two additional high-profile summer contests. On July 6, a boxing match between former UFC stars Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal will take place in a manner symbolic of their 2019 ceremonial BMF championship bout at UFC 244. In one of the most peculiar yet fascinating bouts scheduled for the boxing calendar, Mike Tyson, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, will make his boxing comeback at the age of 58, taking on the 27-year-old social media sensation turned boxer Jake Paul on Netflix. There are still unknowns around the fight, such as whether it will be held as an exhibition or be approved as a professional match.
